Councillor David Pepperell – a life well-lived; a man well-loved

Stapleford Parish Council was very saddened to learn of the death of David Pepperell on 3rd June. He was our longest serving Councillor – wise and dedicated – but, more than that, he was our friend and we will miss him hugely.

Some residents may not have been fortunate enough to know David, but his presence is felt throughout Stapleford. When you walk by the Pavilion, think of David who was instrumental in bringing it into existence. Next time you walk in the shade of Villedômer Wood at Magog Down, think of David who supported its creation during one of three tenures as Parish Council Chair and named it in recognition of our Twinning Association. When you lay a loved one to rest in our new cemetery, surrounded by birdsong and bees, think of David who helped to secure the land for our Parish. All this and a lot, lot more: what a legacy.

So thank you, David, for all you did for Stapleford in 50 years of service to our community and for creating so much that we will continue to cherish about living here for another 50 years and more. Your efforts and kindness made a real difference to many people.

Our thoughts are with Lynn and the rest of David’s family; with his many friends within our community; and of the good times we spent in his company.
