Stapleford has a new community orchard!

Many, many thanks to the 25 volunteers who gave up some of their weekend to plant hedging and trees in Stapleford’s new community orchard, located behind the Slaughterhouse on Church St. This was a superb community effort, something which we feel sure that David Pepperell – 50 years a parish councillor until his passing last year – would have applauded. In recognition of his long service to our village, the new orchard is called the ‘David Pepperell Community Orchard’.
We are also very grateful to local businesses for their support. The Three Horseshoes let us use their hose pipe to water in the new plants, whilst Travis Perkins has donated metres of timber stakes and rope to protect our wildflower areas. These plots are coming along nicely and we’re really looking forward to seeing them bloom.
If you’d like to share in caring for our new orchard, please speak to Cllr Michael Gatward or email clerk@staplefordparishcouncil.gov.uk.
